Conversations on science and faith, as well as debates and internet trolling, are often found in our national and local media. The Canadian Scientific and Christian Affiliation (CSCA) seeks to bring such conversations to a more fruitful level. Many Canadian scientists, working in government laboratories, public and private universities, industry, and medicine are Bible-believing Christians and participate fully in the international scientific community.
The CSCA announces our national lecture tour beginning in Toronto on Tuesday, July 12, and continuing through November. This multi-city tour will feature CSCA’s current president, Arnold Sikkema (Professor of Physics at Trinity Western University), giving a free public lecture entitled “Quantum Physics & Christianity” (more details below).
This tour is part of the CSCA’s new Local Chapters Project (funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation, Inc.), which aims to develop local chapters of the CSCA across Canada. After starting in Canada’s largest city, the cities to be visited in the national lecture tour include Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Waterloo, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver.
Members of the public are invited to join with scientists and other academics, as well as pastors, to hear about interesting interfaces between science and Christianity, both during the lecture tour as well as in the subsequent events organized by each local chapter. We will be drawing on our network of internationally recognized scholars as well as local talent to present engaging lectures with broad interest.

Title: Quantum Physics and Christianity
Abstract: About 100 years ago, physics left behind a Newtonian mechanical universe picture to investigate a cosmos of uncertainty, probability, indeterminism, subjectivity, and holism. This talk will explore resonances with and challenges to Christian theological and philosophical perspectives presented by quantum physics, closing with thoughts on human, divine, and biological agency.
Bio: Arnold Sikkema, professor of physics at Trinity Western University, is president of the Canadian Scientific & Christian Affiliation. He is also Fellow in Physics at St. George’s Centre for Biblical and Public Theology, based in Burlington, Ontario. After his B.Sc. in physics & mathematics from the University of Waterloo, a Ph.D. in superconductivity and magnetism from the University of British Columbia, and post-doctoral research at the University of Florida, he is in his twentieth year in the world of Christian higher education. His main research interests are in science & Christian faith, particularly exploring biophysics from a Reformational philosophical perspective.
