Christian Environmental Worldviews: Understanding the Lay of the Land

Janel Curry has a PhD in Geography from the University of Minnesota. She has taught geography and environmental studies as Central College and Calvin University and served as provost at Gordon College. Presently she is the President of the American Scientific Affiliation.

Her research has focused on religious worldviews and their impact on views of nature. These have included how views of the relationship among God, humans, and nature affect our responses to climate change and natural disasters. This presentation presents the elements in religious worldviews that seem to be prominent in shaping religious groups’ response to public policy options for addressing environmental issues.
