For the past 50 years, the Canadian Scientific and Christian Affiliation has facilitated discussions about science and Christian faith in Canada. As part of our 50th-anniversary celebrations, we asked 50 CSCA members to comment on their personal connections to science, scripture, and Canadian scenery. CSCA member of the week: Arnie Berg, Business Consultant and Software Developer

1. Why did you choose your scientific discipline?

My default track was to follow in my father’s footsteps as an Educator, but in my last year of High School, I developed a keen interest in the new discipline of Computer Science. Even though I have changed a lot since those days, nothing compares to the changes in the IT Industry during that time, and it has been exciting to have a front-row seat and be part of those changes.

2. What is one of your favourite Bible verses and why?

“And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” 

—Ephesians 3:17-19

My life’s goal has been not just to know God’s love, but to grasp and experience it. I have gained much knowledge over the years, but knowing God surpasses knowledge.

3. Which Canadian city or landscape do you love exploring and why?

I enjoy spending time in northern Saskatchewan, away from the lights and noise of cities and highways. The change in atmosphere is relaxing and rejuvenating and brings peace to the soul.
